Founded by the Phoencians in 1100 B.C., Cádiz is amongst the oldest settlements in Spain and serves as one of the country's principal ports.

Inner Cádiz, built on a peninsula island, remains much as it must have looked in those days. With its grand open squares, sailors' alleyways, turreted houses, blind alleys, cafés and back streets, Cádiz is a wanderer's paradise. Its prime location on the Atlantic Ocean makes Cádiz an international tourist mecca during the month of August.
